Self compacting concrete

Self compacting concrete (SCC) can be defined as fresh ready made concrete that flows under its own weight and does not require external vibration to undergo compaction.

This type of concrete is ideal to be used in the following applications:

  • Drilled shafts
  • Columns
  • Earth retaining systems
  • Areas with a high concentration of rebar and pipes/conduits.
  • Self-compacting concrete with a similar water cement or cement binder ratio will usually have a slightly higher strength compared with traditional concrete.
  • Self-compacting concrete produces resistance to segregation by using mineral fillers or fines and using special admixtures. 

Temperature Controlled Concrete

Temperature Controlled mixed concrete with lower Heat of Hydration for Mass concrete requirements, for lower core temperature & lower temperature differentials across concrete member, and subsequently higher durability

Temperature Controlled Concrete is used in mass concrete members, such as,

  • Raft foundations
  • Large footings
  • Dams
  • Thick retaining wall.
  • Lower drying stress.
  • Lower temperature stress
  • Higher durability

Green Building Concrete

Green Concrete is a term given to a concrete that has had extra steps taken in the mix design and placement to insure a sustainable structure and a long life cycle with a low maintenance surface. e.g. Energy saving, CO2 emissions, wastewater.

Green Building concrete is used in construction of,

  • Green home
  • Exterior walls
  • Pavements etc.
  • CO2 emissions shall be reduced by at least 30 %.
  • At least 20 % of the concrete shall be residual products used as aggregate.
  • CO2-neutral, waste-derived fuels shall substitute fossil fuels in the cement production by at least 10 %.

High Density Concrete

The density of high density concrete is about 50% more than the density of conventional concrete. However this concrete can be produced of density upto 5200 kg/m3 using iron as both fine and coarse aggregate.

High density concrete is in demand in regions where,

  • Nuclear reactors are present.
  • Buildings where radiation control is required.
  • Regions where large scale production of electro magnetic waves.
  •  It has sufficient capacity to absorb the radiation both of neutron and gamma rays, reducing the radiation to a very weak state.
  •  It has good mechanical properties as strength and durability.

High Strength Concrete​

The material is typically formulated by combining portland cement, supplementary cementitious materials, reactive powders, limestone and or quartz flour, fine sand, high-range water reducers, and water. 

High –strength concrete is  used in the construction of,

  • Highway bridges.
  • Concrete griders.
  • Construction of more than 30 stories buildings.
  • The material can be formulated to provide compressive strengths in excess of 29,000 pounds per square inch (psi) (200 MPa).
  • The use of fine materials for the matrix also provides a dense, smooth surface valued for its aesthetics and ability to closely transfer form details to the hardened surface.

Early Strength Concrete

Concretes with high compressive strength (> 60 MPa) after 28 days are classified in the high performance concretes group and are used in many different structures due to their versatile technical characteristics.

Early Strength Concrete  are often used ,

  •  construction of high load bearing columns and for many products in precast plants.
  • Suitable for application in high rise buildings, especially in earthquake areas.

The higher strength in concrete could be achieved by using one of the following methods or a combination some or many of the following:

  • Higher cement content
  • Reducing water cement ratio
  • Better workability and hence better compaction

Light Weight Concrete

Lightweight concretes can either be lightweight aggregate concrete, foamed concrete or autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC). Lightweight concrete can be produced using a variety of lightweight aggregates such as, volcanic pumice, clay ,slate, etc.

Light Weight Concrete is used in,

  • Structural applications, with strengths equivalent to normal weight concrete.
  • Covering for architectural purposes.
  • Heat insulation on roofs.
  • Insulation of water pipes.
  • Reduction in dead loads making savings in foundations and reinforcement.
  • Improved thermal properties.
  • Improved fire resistance.
  • Savings in transporting and handling precast units on site.
  • Reduction in formwork and propping.

Water Permeable Concrete​

Special type of concrete with a high porosity used for concrete flatwork applications that allows water from precipitation and other sources to pass directly through, thereby reducing the runoff from a site and allowing groundwater recharge.

Water Permeable Concrete is used in,

  • Pavements
  • Streets,roads etc for reducing water logging.

Permiable concrete is made using large aggregates with little to no fine aggregates. The concrete paste then coats the aggregates and allows water to pass through the concrete slab.

Colour Stamped Concrete

No matter what the climate, properly installed decorative stamped ready made concrete offers the same durability, strength and permanence as conventional concrete. 

Colour Stamped Concrete is used in various structures, like,

  • Driveaways
  • Reinforced foundations
  • Residential driveways
  • Commercial footings

 Colour Stamped Concrete has,

  • a base color, the addition of an accent color, and stamping a pattern into the concrete.
  •  longer-lasting than paved stone.
